Case Description
my daughter has excellent dental history, cleaning twice a year never a cavity, nov 08 when we took her to get a cleaning the dr suggested we see an orthodontic she needed a 2x4.... i went today to a orth dr in my neighborhood, the estimate sound too high I would like to know if the price is fair, he describe it to his assistant as she typed phase I treatment 10 months,he also explain 2x4 is four brakets on top upper front and two in the back but she might need six on upper top front, she is 9 yrs old and the upper four front are her permanent ones. I wonder if because my ppo dental ins. covers one lifetime allowens of 1,000 they are overcharging on the estimate which is $2720.00 which ppo pays 1000 the rest 1,720 for us to pay in 10mmonths. I feel they are too high... please tell me if this is a fair price or should I ask for other estimates?

When selecting a new doctor, consider the following:
  • Quality of Explanations: Compare dentist replies. Give preference to well-reasoned, detail-oriented, transparent explanations.
  • Experience & Qualifications: If a dentist has a practice listing, check their practice description, special training, typical office procedures and before & after case photographs.
  • Other Patients' Freedback: If a dentist has reviews, read other patients' reviews. The more reviews they have, the more likely it is that other patients' feeback is accurate.
  • Treatment Costs: Dental procedure costs vary from practice to practice and depend on a variety of factors. Because quality of patient care and treatment results vary from practice to practice most dentists will not "price-match" treatment fees of others.

Cost Estimate: $1800-2200
I would never charge that much for phase I treatment, but that''''s just me. Every orthodontist is different.

I typically charge $1800 for such a treatment description.

Hope it helps,

Jeff
